MANIFESTO -P1A

Guided by our tutorial group’s manifesto — Listen, Include, and Connect — this project emphasizes the importance of community through the lens of human connection. At the heart of our approach is the belief that architecture should serve as a bridge between people, fostering interaction and understanding across generations. With “people” as the central focus, the design aims to create inclusive spaces that encourage meaningful engagement between the elderly and the younger community. By listening to diverse needs, including all age groups, and connecting them through shared spaces and activities, the proposal aspires to strengthen social bonds and nurture a sense of belonging within the park.

CONCEPT MODEL

Building on the manifesto Listen, Include, and Connect, the design celebrates intergenerational bonding by integrating traditional living activities within a contemporary spatial experience. The structure features a series of stations—such as a coop area, mamak-style cooking space (mamasak), board game corner, gathering spot, craft workshop, and bazaar—each curated to encourage meaningful interaction between the elderly and younger generations. Inspired by the layout of congkak, a traditional game rooted in community and strategy, the spatial organization adopts a station-to-station concept, guiding users through a journey of shared activities and conversations. This approach reinterprets cultural practices through modern, engaging formats to create a vibrant, inclusive hub where heritage meets contemporary play.

MODEL DESIGN PROGRESS

The design takes inspiration from the traditional game of congkak, using its rules and layout as a guiding framework to organize spatial flow. Just as pebbles move from station to station in the game, users—represented metaphorically as the pebbles—navigate through a series of interactive zones, creating a sense of journey and continuity. Each “hole” in the congkak board is reimagined as a functional station, such as the coop area, cooking station, board games, and craft workshops, encouraging users of different ages to pause, engage, and connect. A central datum line, much like the spine of the congkak board, anchors the circulation and acts as a unifying element that links all spaces. This playful yet meaningful strategy not only fosters intergenerational interaction but also embeds cultural relevance into the spatial experience.
